Mohammed Abdulla started of his presentation with courage; his presentation is about Reckless Driving. He presented an interesting problem that grabbed my attention more than any other presentation in the class, in the beginning of the presentation, Mohammed outlined what is he going to talk about which was planned well. He talked about the main causes of the problem which was a lot, for example Racing, Crossing a red Light, Making illegal U-turns, Distraction and many others, he explained each one individually. Mohammed spoke well during the presentation, but some nervous signs appeared on him while he is explaining to us. After that he went to the consequences of the problem, the most important one to him was suspending the driver’s license as he explained. In the end he showed some solutions to the problem by dividing them into separate roles, depending on who can solve the problem. He presented the government’s and individual’s way of solving the problem of reckless driving, than he gave us his own opinion about some solutions that might be great to help stopping reckless drivers.
At the end of the presentation he showed his bibliography in APA format, and answered the questions of the supervisor.

Presentation Reflective Response

Presentation by: Abdulla Ahmed Alhosani

Presentation subject: Fireworks

Abdulla AlHosani did a presentation about fireworks. The subject was interesting for me as well as for the audience. He provided information that I never knew; for example, one fact of the fireworks history is that they used to be used in wars instead of in celebrating. Also fireworks are used nowadays for danger signs in the sea; if a boat or a ship is in danger, the person on that boat or ship has to have a special firework used to send signals for others to know where he is located; also he showed a part of the Titanic story when they used fireworks to ask for help. During the presentation. Abdulla Al Hosani presented his work properly and in order; he used eye contact with the audience and spoke with good English. Abdulla was confident about himself during the presentation and I didn't notice any nervous signs in him.

The Room: CERT Research & Innovation Centre

The Date of Meeting: Tuesday 13th March

Start and End times: 9:05 – 9:30

Group Members:

- Chairman: Mohammed Abdulla H00214394

- Minutes taker: Abdulaziz Faez H00210495

- Participants:

· Abdulla Jaber H00229972

· Abdulla Hussein H00229909

Causes of Air pollution:

a- Industries’ chemical waste.

b- Burning trash and garbage.

c- Exhaust emissions

d- Deforestation

e- Destroying the green environment

f- Pesticides

g- Smoking in a closed area in a small public place

Main effects of air pollution:

a- Acid rain

b- Increase in the gas CO2

c- Global warming: kills the ozone layer which will allow heat and direct sunlight to enter the atmosphere, making skin diseases and increasing the temperature.

d- Melting the North Pole: which means that the sea level gets higher every year, which could damage some peninsulas and coastal cities.

e- Lung diseases and breathing problems due to increase in CO2 gas.

Agenda:

- Convince people to use hybrid vehicles.

- Using buses instead of cars for people who live in the city.

- Underground metro.

- Issuance of rules that limit the industries.

- Recycling & re-use of newspapers and plastic bags.

Mohammed Abdulla the chairman of the group started the meeting at 9:05 by introducing himself and the members of the group. In the first part of the meeting Mohammed Abdulla asked the participants what are the causes of air pollution? Abdulla Jabber said the chemical waste is the main reason for air pollution and Abdulla Hussein added, the chemical waste also affects human health.

Mohammed Abdulla mentioned deforestation, then Abdulaziz asked the meaning of deforestation and Mohammed Abdulla explained it which means cutting forest trees. Abdulla Jabber and Abdulla Hussein agreed that is a big problem and it affects the air.

Abdulla Jabber said that cars' exhausts also affect the air, because car emissions have a lot of CO2 which is dangerous and everyone agreed with that. Abdulla Hussein mentioned that smoking is also one of air pollution causes but Abdulla Jabber didn’t agree with what Abdulla Hussein said; he said that it is not a big issue but it's a dangerous for people and it is bad for their health.

Mohammed Abdulla the chairman mentioned that the acid rain is one of the results of air pollution but Mr. Hedley didn’t know what is that and Abdulla Hussein explained to him what it is. Abdulla Hussein said the CO2 increased in the earth and this is dangerous; because of CO2 the temperature of the weather is increasing and scientists call that Global Warming. Because of global warming or temperature increasing, ice in the North Pole melts so seas and oceans water rises up so islands and coastal cities will drown after some decades. Mr. Hedley wanted proof of water rising and Abdulla Jabber said Maldives Islands. Mr. Hedley said that he went on a fishing trip on a sunny say and he said he saw a yellow fog around Abu Dhabi city; Abdulla Jabber said it is pollution and all of that because of car emissions.

1. Convince people to use hybrid vehicles.

Abdulla Jaber said it is a good idea to reduce the pollution in the air but there is a problem which is hybrid cars are expensive and the spare parts of these vehicles are not available.

Abdulla Hussain said it is a good idea.

2. Using buses instead of cars for people who live in the city.

Mohammed Abdulla said using the buses is a very good idea to reduce the CO2 in the air by reducing using cars.

Abdulziz said it is a good idea but the problem is that buses are not comfortable.

Abdulla Jabber and Abdulla Hussein agreed with Mohammed Abdulla.

3. Underground metro.

Abdulla Hussein said it is not a good idea because a metro still issued smoke, was expensive and it requires years to be built.

Abdulla Jaber said it was to solve and reduce the traffic not air pollution.

4. Issuance of rules that limit the industries.

Abdulla Jabber said that factories must obey the rules because factories are the biggest source of toxics gases.

Mohammed Abdulla mentioned that acid rain comes from toxics gases and industrial waste.

Abdulla Hussein agreed with what they said.

5. Recycling and re-use of newspaper and plastic bags.

Abdulla Husain said recycling is a good method because instead of burning materials that cause damage to the environment we recycle them and use them again; also Abdulla Jabber agreed with that.

All the members of the group agreed that some of these solutions are successful to reduce the pollution in the air:

1- Recycling used materials.

2- Using buses instead of cars for people who live in the city.

3- Making strict rules to limit the pollution of the chemical waste that results from the factories.

Also, spread the awareness in the society by advertisements and telling them the effects of air pollution.

Reflective Log (Interviews Response)

Interviewee: AbdulAziz.Faez.

In the beginning of the interview, the interviewee introduced himself in a good way; he had enough confidence to answer the questions properly, as it seems he understood the questions directed to him; he was dressed well. He got confused in one question that talks about the salary; he could not answer properly due to his nervousness. And about the working under pressure his answer was convincing enough to the interviewers.

Interviewee: Abdulla Ahmed.

Abdulla welcomed the interviewers before he sat at the table. He seemed prepared, and he was applying for a job as a waiter in a restaurant. He had  good English language and looked educated; he said that he is still studying and wants to work in a job. In my opinion he answered every question properly and that shows that he understood what he is being told and realizes the questions; in the end of his interview, the interviewers were happy with him and it seems that he will get the job as soon as possible.

Interviewee: Mohamed Abdulla

Mohammed  started the interview with a brief introduction about himself; he is applying for a job as a mechanical engineer in ADWEA; the questions he got asked were well answered by him; he was confident and less nervous as it shows from his body language; he wasn’t shaking or moving around the chair. The English skills he’s got are good enough as I can see; he got confused when the interviewers asked him about his personal goals.

Interviewee: Abdulla Hussian

Abdulla is a recently graduated student from HCT; he has a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering; he came to apply for a job; in the beginning of the interview, the interviewee did not introduce himself well enough to the interviewers; as I see from his body language; he was confused and nervous about the interview , but his answers to the interviewers had enough information to satisfy them. In the end of the interview he was interested to know how the company he applied for is doing.
